5 SYMBOLS - instalation, wooden boards, bicycle wheels, 300x120x200 cm, 2024
According to the general concept of the event that
simultaneously brings to attention five iconic spaces of Timișoara (the
Metropolitan Cathedral, the Union Square, the Bega canal, the Opera Square, and
the Park of Roses, respectively five issues of contemporary society
(environment/ pollution, consumerism, war, poverty, global warming) - below -, the
present installation appeals to one of the most successful projects implemented
in the city - the bicycle. Timișoara holds the 2nd place in Romania in the
number of km of tracks, a bike sharing system located in 25 locations, as well
as an internationally connected route(up to Zrenjanin/ Serbia). The
installation presents five repurposed bicycle wheels bought from the flea
market, integrated through the symbolism of five colors associated by the
artist with the history of Timișoara: red - love /fight; yellow - light /greatness; blue - faith /delicacy; green - peace /nature; purple - sadness /sincerity. With a decorative role, the two
non-colors highlight the proposed symbols (white – peace/light, respectively
black – mourning/sobriety).

OPPOSITE PERSPECTIVES - One Future is a project aimed at
raising awareness about the future of Timișoara in the context of
globalization, internal migration, environmental pressures, and war. The
exhibition brings together contemporary and digital art with music, integrating
images of emblematic locations in the city, each with its own story and meaning.
In this ever-changing world, One Future explores how the passage of
time influences not only the city’s identity but also the sustainability of its
environment. The artworks reflect both current challenges and hopes for a
greener and more equitable future. Visitors are invited to observe how history
and nature interact, sparking an essential discussion about our responsibility
toward the environment. The images of Timișoara’s iconic places, reinterpreted
through contemporary artistic visions, become symbols of continuity and
transformation. By combining visual arts with digital art, the exhibition
becomes a space for reflection and action, encouraging the community to
collaborate in building a sustainable future for the city. Thus, OPPOSITE PERSPECTIVES - One Future is
not just an artistic display but also a call to action, inviting us to take
responsibility for Timișoara’s future by imagining new narratives that promote
balance between development and the preservation of natural resources.
Group exhibition OPPOSITE PERSPECTIVES - One Future organized by the Trib’Art Association, curator and project coordinator Cristina Nagy at Casa Artelor/ Sala Studio in Timisoara, RO, October 24th – November 17th, 2024
